Magnetism is the property of attracting materials made out of Iron or Steel (Also Cobalt and Nickel). A Magnet is an object that attracts materials made out of iron or steal.
Magnets come in all sizes and shapes. Typical shapes include bars, doughnuts, buttons, horseshoe, and marbles.

Most commercially made Permanent Magnets are made out of of steel that contained iron and other metals. These magnets are difficult to produce.
Some pieces of iron or steel can be made into Induced Magnets. By rubbing pieces of on your steel on a Permanent Magnets, the pieces of iron become magnetize. Induced magnets are only temporary. They will lose their magnetism over time.
